About this event

NB This event is for Citizens UK members and invited guests. This is not for the general public.

Throughout 2019, we are gathering to democratically decide on a London Citizens manifesto to ensure London is a better place for us all. Across the capital, member organisations and community leaders have led on listening campaigns and public actions, involving thousands of people from our 200+ member organisations.

Campaign areas we're working on and will be voting on include:

  • Youth safety
  • A Welcoming London
  • Housing & Homelessness
  • Low Pay
  • Climate Crisis

This process will culminate on 21st April 2020, where over 6,000 active Citizens will gather at the Copper Box Arena on the Olympic Park. We are seeking a working relationship with the next Mayor of London, weeks before their election, and to ask them to act on the issues presented that matter to us.

FAQ

What will happen on the night?

On Wednesday evening, we will share all London campaigns areas, commission a strategy team and vote to ratify our London Citizens manifesto.

On the night, all paid up members will be able to vote on the night. Member organisations who have brought 5 delegates and paid their membership dues will have:

- the ability to force a vote on any campaign the membership sees as divisive

- have 3 votes to help prioritise our issues as we negotiate with decision makers about our agenda

Member organisations with 4 or less people will have 1 vote for prioritisation

As we seek to fill the Copper Box arena on the Olympic Park with 6000 Londoners for our Mayoral assembly each organisation will be pledging how many people they can bring. Start thinking now how many people you think you can get to come.

I am concerned about venue accessibility as I am a wheelchair user/have a pushchair

If you have someone in your delegation who requires wheelchair access, can you reply back to let us know? Provision will be made for those requiring access as a wheelchair user.

Furthermore, access for parents with baby pushchairs will also be made.

Organized by

Citizens UK is the UK’s biggest, most diverse, and most effective people-powered alliance. We’re bringing together everyday people and local organisations to build a better, fairer society.

What is Community Organising?

Community organising is about bringing people together to win change. This means building community-led solutions to big and small problems, that work for everyone.

Through community organising, we work together to make change on the issues that matter, from campaigning for zebra crossings on dangerous roads, to reforming the immigration system, to the Living Wage campaign.

We know everyday people have the ability to shape the world around them and together, we put the power back into people’s hands to hold those responsible to account.

By building positive working relationships between communities, elected power-holders and businesses, we make sure everyone is heard and no one is left out. This is how we shift the balance of power, helping people come together across their differences, find common ground and win change.

Together, we have a proven track record of winning change on the things that you and your community care about most.
